As morning commuters were arriving, protestors harrassed any vehicle passing by, causing complete chaos in the early morning hours. One truck caught up in the middle of the chaos, was set ablaze.
Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, spokesperson for the Gauteng plice, urged residents and mortorist to stay away from the area. Although police were on scene in an attempt to conrol the situation, the chaos continued well into the afternoon.
Several things have been left unclear at this point, we do not know yet the full reason behind the disrutpions, nor have any reported arrests been made.
It has been reported through social media channels and eyewitness accounts, that the unrest is the result of the polices’ incompetence regarding foreigners who are occupying houses in the area illegally.
Although chaos, and traffic backups resulted in the protests, there have been no reported injuries. Police will be monitoring the scene.
